How to Get Hardwood Lumber Fast in Harvest Moon: Light of Hope
Lumbers are one of the most important materials in Harvest Moon games, including Harvest Moon: Light of Hope (LoH).
You’ll need them to upgrade your home, repair bridges, and fix villagers’ houses.
There are two main types of lumber in the game:
- Softwood Lumber
- Hardwood Lumber
How to Get Softwood Lumber
Softwood Lumber is easy to get. Just cut down the softwood trees that look like pine trees.
You can use the Axe given by Naomi at the start of the game to chop them down.
How to Get Hardwood Lumber
Unlike Softwood, Hardwood Lumber requires a bit more effort. Here’s what you need to know:
- Hardwood trees are the fluffy pink-colored trees you see in Spring.
- You cannot cut them with Naomi’s basic Axe.
- You’ll need at least an Expert Axe, which you can upgrade at Gus’s Smithy.

Tips for Getting More Hardwood Lumber
- Once you have an Expert Axe, chop both the top and bottom of the hardwood tree to get around 1–3 pieces of Hardwood Lumber.
- Upgrading your Axe further lets you cut trees faster and use less stamina, increasing your efficiency.
- Increase your heart stamina
- If you have plenty of money, you can also buy Softwood and Hardwood Lumber (and their tree seeds) from Sam for about 200 G each.
- After being cut down, both Softwood and Hardwood trees take several days to regrow.
