How to Meet Zann and Order Accessories - Harvest Moon: Hero of Leaf Valley
There is one mysterious character in Harvest Moon: Hero of Leaf Valley (HoLV).
If you look at the Character Profile in the Diary, you will notice a missing character (???) between Flak and Ponta.
Who is he?
He is Zann (English version), but in the Japanese version of Harvest Moon: Hero of Leaf Valley, his name is Gol Dodo.
Basically, he is a merchant who comes to the village to trade, so he is not considered a local villager.
There is an interesting fact about this character. Originally, Zann had dark skin because he was from Africa.
He was also known for broken English in his speech.
However, this sparked some controversy and made certain Harvest Moon players upset. The reason is unclear, but it may have been related to racism.
As a result, Zann’s skin color was later changed to brown to resolve the issue.
How to Meet Zann in Harvest Moon: Hero of Leaf Valley
Meeting him is simple and does not require special conditions.
You just need to save the village and reach Year 3. Zann will come to your house on Spring 7, Year 3.
He’ll talk about Scrap Metal and ask you to give him some if you have it. In exchange, he will give you Jewelry and Accessories.
He will talk like this:
Zann: You... bring... Scrap metal.
Zann: I... trade... Accessories...
Zann: You find Scrap metal. Bring here. I trade accessories.
Zann: No need money. Want scrap metal... Okay?
Zann: Scrap metal. Go get. I make accessories.
After this event, you can meet him at the Plaza from 8:00 AM until the afternoon on Sunny or Cloudy days. He does not appear on Rainy or Stormy days.
You may be wondering, "Can we meet Zann before the third year?"
Unfortunately, you cannot.
How to Order Zann to Make Jewelry and Accessories
Making accessories through Zann can be confusing the first time you play, so let me explain it here.
You need to keep giving Zann scrap metal every day so he can make accessories. You’ll need to do this for about 10 to 11 days.
Each time you give him scrap metal, he will respond with an unknown word (#Ref).
When you’ve given him enough, he won’t say anything—only a blank monologue box will appear.
The next day, you must give him one of the gems you’ve mined. For example, if you give him a Ruby, he will make Ruby Earrings.
You can collect, sell, or give these jewelry and accessories to villagers. Alice, in particular, loves them.
The gems Zann can turn into accessories include:
- Amethyst
- Aquamarine
- Diamond
- Garnet
- Moonlight Stone
- Opal
- Ruby
- Sapphire

- Spring 7: You first meet Zann.
- Spring 8–18: Continue giving him scrap metal.
