Contests and Festivals | Harvest Moon: Light of Hope Guide
There are some interesting contests and festivals in Harvest Moon: Light of Hope (LoH).
Contests are a series of competitions with the villagers. If you win a contest, you will become quite popular in the town. The difficulty of the contest is divided into several types: Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced Class.
Festivals are a series of events that can increase the friendship points of someone you like significantly. Some festivals can also be said to be dating events, such as the Fireworks Festival, Starry Night Festival, and Harvest Festival.
There are also festivals which only require to gift of 'something' to villagers, such as Fall Festival, Flower Festival, and others.
List of Contests and Festivals in Harvest Moon: Light of Hope
Here is the explanation of all the contests and festivals, and how to enter and win them:
Fishing Contest
The fishing contest will be held on the 5th of every season. Sam will come to your house on this contest day. Then, you should talk to Sam at the plaza from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM to enter this contest.
In this contest, you are required to catch fish as much as possible in the time range I mentioned above.
The Bigger the fish you catch, the more points you get will be.
How to win:
- Start at 10 AM and immediately go to the Beach.
- Don't waste your time to talk with other villagers.
- Upgrade your fishing rod.
Cooking Contest
The cooking contest will be held on the 20th of Spring and Fall. You should speak to Bastian at 10:00 AM at Beacon Town Plaza to start this contest. After that, you must give him your best dish to win this contest.
Tip to win:
- Cook with better quality ingredients depending on the difficulty.
Fireworks Festival
The fireworks festival will be held on Summer 25. Long before that date, Rowan will come to your house to tell you about this festival and advise you to invite someone. Just invite a girl or boy you like.
When the festival takes place. You are required to come to the beach at 7:00 PM to see fireworks together.
Flower Festival
The flower festival will be held on Spring 10. If you give the villager's favorite flower, their friendship will increase significantly.

- Edmond: Yellow Pansy/Yellow Dahlia

- Tabitha: Sunny Red
- Doc: Blue Rose

- Bastian: Yellow Pansy
- Sam: Pink Dahlia / Pink Pansy
- Carol: Pink Pansy
- Naomi: Pink Rose
- Sofia: Yellow Tulip
- Sally: White Tulip
- Michael: Sunflower
- Harvest God: Blue Rose
- Harvest Goddess: Pink Dahlia
- Gorgan: Sunny Red
- Rowan: Sunflower
- Blossom: Pink Dahlia

Note: Most of the villagers will still respond to 'music notes' when you give the above flowers during the festival. Because there is a bug, the tips from Tabitha are not 100% correct.
Dog Race Contest
The dog race contest will be held on the 20th of Summer and Winter. You should talk to Naomi from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM at the beach to join this contest.
In this contest, you and your dog will race against a dog from other villagers, anyone who finishes first with his/her dog will be the winner.
Friendship with your dog greatly affects winning the race. The smarter and cleverer dog will always follow you during the race.
How to win:
- Increase the friendship points of your dog.
- Don't leave your dog behind.
- If your dog starts not following you during the race, stop running, and point your character to the right facing your dog.
Harvest Moon Festival
The festival will be held on Fall 15. You can invite a girl or boy you like to increase his/her FP.
On the day of the festival takes place, you will be forced to follow someone you invite at 5:00 PM. The girl/boy you invited earlier will pick you up at home.
At this Festival, you will see the full moon with a girl/boy you like on the top of the mountain.
Fall Festival
The fall festival will be held on Fall 30. If you give food/crops grown in the Fall to a girl or boy you can marry, their friendship points will increase significantly.

- Dean: Potato
- Edmond: Blueberry
- Gabriel: Watermelon
- Gareth: Hot/Green pepper
- Elise: Tomato
- Jeanne: Asparagus
- Melanie: Celery
- Nova: Strawberry
- Tabitha: Pumpkin
Starry Night Festival
This festival will be held on Winter 25. Like any other dating festival, invite a girl or boy you love to increase his/her FP. You will see the sky full of stars together at night.
New Year Eve
A Festival to celebrate the new year. Held every Spring 1. Don't forget to say 'Happy New Year' to everyone!
As a side note, you probably will not see some of the above contests and festivals if you haven't repaired the villagers' houses that made them return to Beacon Island.
